This page outlines the MVDC organisational induction programme that covers the key requirements for inducting all new employees to MVDC. Individual business areas may also have tailored induction programmes for employees recruited into those areas. The organisational programme will be referred to in this document as the MVDC Induction Programme. The individual business area induction programmes will run in conjunction with this.
The MVDC induction programme consists of the following phases:
- Welcome information, including induction schedule
- ‘Meet’n’Greet’ with a member of SLT hosted meet once a month
- Access to essential e-learning modules and MVDC Policy Signing page
- Health and Safety Awareness
- Information about local induction arrangements
Employees must take part in the MVDC Induction Programme as well as any tailored service area inductions.
The MVDC Induction Programme Checklist will form the basis for all induction programmes but is sufficiently flexible to be tailored to meet specific service needs.
All employees will be encouraged to ask questions before the induction is concluded and to identify any other support or information they may need. Employees should have a post induction interview with their line manager where they will have the opportunity to identify any further needs, as part of their 6 month probation meeting and Personal Development Review discussions going forward.
Service area inductions will be tailored to meet the needs of the service and the employee, and may include briefings, individual or group discussions, management meetings etc.
The process of induction must be integrated as far as possible with the management of probationary procedures, 1-2-1s, Performance Development Reviews (PDRs) and learning and development activities.
MVDC Induction Programme Checklist
To achieve a successful induction, a systematic plan should be followed. This is to enable records to be kept and ensure that vital information is not missed out. This should be achieved through completion of the following:
- MVDC Induction Programme Checklist – This checklist covers actions to be taken from one week prior to induction through the first 3 months of a new starter’s probation period.
- Employee Induction Timetable Template – Timetable of activities to provide to your new starter prior to their first day.
- Induction Email to Employee – Template email to send to your new starter with their timetable.
- New Starter Health & Safety Checklist – To be completed on the first day of employment
- DSE Assessment form for office / home workstation – To be completed on the first day of employment
All checklists must be returned to hr.admin@molevalley.gov.uk once completed. If your service uses the Adelante Cash Payment system you must ensure that your new starter completes the confidentiality form and returns it to finance.
As the manager responsible for creating an induction schedule you will need to amend the MVDC Induction Programme Checklist Template to meet the needs of the service level induction programme. Space has been left at the bottom of each section of the Induction template to add service level induction elements.
Managers must use the Induction Checklist to support the induction of all new employees as part of their induction programme, from their first day and throughout the probation period. Specific elements outlined on the checklist should be completed within the given timeframe. The manager must date each element as it is completed, and sign the end of the form to confirm completion. A copy should then be provided to HR for the employee’s file.
New Starter Learning Activities
Included in the above MVDC Induction Programme checklist are the essential learning activities all new starters must complete. Completion of each essential learning activity must be recorded on the checklist. Once completed learning activities will be uploaded as a Learning Event on iTrent by HR. Click here for a list of mandatory New Starter Learning Activities.
Completion of the Induction Programme Checklist must be considered at employee’s three month probation meeting. Probation must not be signed off until mandatory training has been completed.
