Parental leave is unpaid, statutory leave for eligible employees, designed to give parents more time with their young children and to look after their welfare. It applies to natural and adoptive parents, and to those who have legal parental responsibility. Parents do not have to be living with the child in order to qualify. It does not mean being with a child 24 hours a day but it does enable parents to spend more time with young children.
