Park For Free After Three Dorking Initiative Relaunched

Dorking Town Partnership and Mole Valley District Council (MVDC) are relaunching their popular Dorking free parking initiative. From Friday 21 May to Friday 16 July, parking will be free every Friday from 3pm in St Martin’s Walk, Wathen Road, Southside and West Street car parks.

The Park for Free after Three scheme, funded by Dorking Town Partnership, seeks to encourage residents to shop locally and support the town’s businesses. Tickets are not needed during the free parking periods.

Charlotte Whitaker, Business Improvement District Manager for the Dorking Town Partnership, said: “We are delighted to be able to restart this initiative to support Dorking and its businesses after a very challenging year for all. Park for free on a Friday after three and enjoy browsing our independent boutiques finished off with a delicious meal at one of our amazing restaurants or pubs. What better way to spend a Friday!”

Councillor Clayton Wellman, Cabinet Member for Sustainable Economy, said: “These have been tough times for local businesses, and we must do all we can to support them as the high street economy really opens up again. We hope the scheme will once again encourage people to explore Dorking’s many unique shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. We’re delighted to work with the Dorking Town Partnership to bring opportunities like this to residents, visitors and businesses.”

“Parking also remains free throughout the day on Sundays and on bank holidays in all our car parks, as well as every evening from six o’clock, and we have 41 free 30-minute parking spaces across Mole Valley.”

There are posters advertising Park for Free after Three on MVDC’s parking machines. If money is accidently inserted during the free periods, it will be divided between the Chairman’s charities.

The number of parking spaces in St Martin’s Walk car park is currently reduced due to essential maintenance works. Those who struggle to find a space are advised to park in the other car parks that are part of the Free After Thee initiative.
