Bank Holiday – Monday 19th September

As you may be aware an additional bank holiday has been announced for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II‘s state funeral on Monday 19th September. In recognition of this historic event MVDC will be closed on this day for all but essential services. Staff will be given the day as an additional bank holiday and the usual bank holiday arrangements will apply.

This additional bank holiday will not be added to the iTrent system and arrangements to take the bank holiday should be agreed locally with your Line/Business Manager. In normal circumstances the HR team set all bank holidays in the system in advance of the year, however this can cause problems when adjusted part way through the year. To avoid these issues bank holiday arrangements for Monday will be made outside of the iTrent system.

Additional leave can be complex – so we have put together the following details to resolve some of the usual queries that arise, however if anything is not clear please speak to your manager who will seek further guidance or provide a more detailed explanation.

For staff working office hours and would usually work Mondays:

You don’t need to book the 19th September as leave, this will be given as an additional bank holiday and you do not need to take any further action.

For shift workers, staff required to work to cover essential services or staff that do not work Mondays:

If you’re in either of the following two categories – you need to make arrangements outside the HR system to ensure you benefit from the extra day’s leave

  1. You’re part time and you don’t work on Mondays,

OR

  • You work for a service that will continue to operate through the additional bank holiday (e.g. Dorking Halls, MV Life)

In either of these scenarios you will need to take the day by arrangement with your manager. Do not book this on the system or you will be debited the time and will not benefit from the additional bank holiday. The agreed time will need to be logged manually (e.g. on your calendars) by you and your manager. Alternatively, they may allow you to cancel booked leave and use this additional leave instead. The additional days leave should be agreed and taken by the 16th December 2022.

Please remember the day is pro rata’d to your working arrangements (so if you work part time, you are being given an additional half day)

As with any leave, please discuss with your manager as to when you would like to take the day, so that they can balance work demands with the rest of the team.

If you are unsure if you are required to work on Monday as part of an essential service please speak with your manager to confirm requirements.
