Induction Programmes

It is expected that every new employee that joins us has a timely induction.

Induction is a vital part of staff recruitment and integration into MVDC ’s working environment, values and principles. This guidance, associated procedures and guidelines define our commitment to ensure that all staff are supported during the period of induction, to the benefit of the employee and MVDC alike.

The guidance below is written to give flexibility to managers to meet the needs of different employee groups and services, allowing elements of the programme to be tailored.  There are however some organisational minimum standards and time-frames for delivery.

It is preferable that a full induction programme is delivered face to face. Where this is not possible, though it may prove more challenging, with a structured arrangement and fully exploiting technology it is still possible to cover the same content and virtually ‘meet’ colleagues. A virtual induction process should only be adopted where it is essential to expatiate the new starter process and face to face communication is not possible.

Each manager’s commitment to induction is vital to its success.

Objectives

The objective to providing an induction programme for all new starters is to help new employees to settle into MVDC and become productive and efficient members of staff as quickly as is practicable. This can be achieved by:

  • Providing timely, comprehensive and relevant content.
  • Meeting your new starter in person as soon as possible
  • Understanding and ensuring continuous development of the required skills and knowledge needed to do the job
  • Being clear about roles and responsibilities
  • Understanding how the job relates to the rest of the organisation
  • Ensuring new employees are aware of MVDC’s Policies and arrangements (including Health and Safety, Data Protection, Safeguarding and Equality and Diversity)
  • Accurately recording progress and logging probation completion and related paperwork on iTrent
