Essential Learning and where to find it

All essential learning requirements are listed below. The majority of essential learning is provided via eLearning and can be accessed via the Go1 portal. Once you have completed your e-learning as a new starter as part of your induction programme you will receive reminders about essential learning that needs to be completed every 12, 24 or 36 months, depending on the criteria for that subject.

You will receive notification via e-mail of any essential learning that you are required to complete.  While we will endeavour to ensure you are reminded about any refresher learning in plenty of time, you also have responsibility to ensure it is completed on time.  It is a good idea to make a note of the requirements for your refresher courses and ensure it is completed on time.

The following are modules that require you to refresh your learning periodically, to ensure that you are up to date with current legislation and best practice, as required. Here is a list of the essential learning, how often you are required to refresh your learning in this area and which portal you can find the relevant learning on. Please ensure that you are up-to-date on your essential training requirements below:

Essential Learning available via the Go1 portal

Essential learning to be completed by all staff

  • GDPR UK Essentials or GDPR UK Advanced (Management) – to be completed every 12 months
  • Diversity, Equality and Discrimination – to be completed every 24 months
  • Health & Safety Basics & Essentials – as required
  • Safeguarding children and adults – to be completed every 24 months (see section below for further information on additional Safeguarding learning for particular groups)
  • Display Screen Equipment (DSE) Assessment – to be completed every 24 months by staff who use computers. (You will receive an email from Workrite, set up by the H&S Co-ordinator)

Essential learning for specific roles (as identified by your line manager)

  • Manual Handling – to be completed every 36 months
  • Risk Assessment in the Workplace – to be completed by those who write/undertake risk assessments, as required
  • Accident Investigation – to be completed by those who investigate accidents, as required
  • Handling Conflict and Aggression at Work – to be completed by anyone in a role where they may face conflict and aggression, as required
  • Lone Worker Safety – to be completed by those who work by themselves without close or direct supervision, as required
  • Safeguarding – The level of Safeguarding learning required for your role will be dependent on the interaction you have with Children or Vulnerable Adults as part of your required duties. The Safeguarding Children and Adults essential learning above will be required for all staff as a minimum. Essential learning for managers

These courses will be required in addition to the above essential learning for all staff.

  • GDPR UK Advanced (Management) – to be completed every 12
  • Health & Safety Essentials for Managers – as required
  • Risk Assessment in the Workplace – on commencement of role
  • Unconscious Bias – on commencement of role
  • Accident Investigation – on commencement of role
