Paternity Leave

Attendance at Ante-Natal appointments

Irrespective of length of service, an expectant father or the partner of a pregnant woman will be entitled to take unpaid time off work to accompany the woman to two of her ante-natal appointments.

Paternity Leave

You are entitled to two weeks paternity leave if you meet the following criteria:

1) You are the biological father or the husband/partner of the mother

2) You have 26 weeks continuous service by the end of the 15th week before the baby is due

Paternity Leave must be taken within 56 days of the birth or the date on which the child is adopted. You can take one or two weeks in a row, but not odd days or two separate weeks.

If your baby is stillborn after the end of the 24th week of pregnancy, you are still entitled to Paternity Leave.

Statutory Paternity Leave entitlement is in addition to Parental Leave.

Paternity Pay

Provided you meet the criteria above, you will be entitled to one week at full pay. The second week, if you choose to take it, will be paid at the statutory paternity pay rate or 90% of your average weekly salary (whichever figure is lower). The current weekly rate of SPP can be found on the government website.

Notification Requirements

You must give 28 days notice, complete form SC3 and return this to HR.

Paternity Leave for Adoption

The requirements for paternity leave for adoption are similar to those above. Please speak to the HR Team for further guidance on this.

Additional Statutory Paternity Leave and Pay

Please note that this has been replaced by Shared Parental Leave.
