Staffing for the May 2024 Elections

Have you ever thought of getting involved at election time?

The Electoral Services Team are preparing for the Police and Crime Commissioner, and Local Elections that will be held on Thursday 2 May 2024. A General Election will also be held at any time before the end of January 2025, although the exact date of this is not currently known and it is likely to be called at short notice.

We are making arrangements for the staffing of our polling stations and we have a number of vacancies left. If you are new to Mole Valley, or if you’ve been here for a while and never worked on elections, and you fancy doing something different for a day, please get in touch.

You do not need any previous experience as full training will be provided, and all roles on offer are paid. The rate of pay for next year’s elections has not been confirmed, but last year’s rates are included below as an indication.

The hours: from 06:15am until 22:30pm (approximately). AM or PM half-day shifts can be requested. An AM shift will be from 06:15am until 14:00pm and an afternoon/evening shift will be from 14:00pm until 22:30pm.

The rate of pay: £231* (for Poll Clerks, including a £15 fee for completion of training)

The rate of pay for election staff varies depending on the job role and the type of poll.  All fees are subject to tax. Mileage allowance will also be paid.

*This fee was paid to Poll Clerks in May 2023 and is subject to change for May 2024.

Internal members of staff do not need to take time off to work on Elections, but you do need your manager’s approval. Family members and friends (aged 18 or over) are also welcome to volunteer.

If you are interested in getting involved, please email Joe Blythman in the Electoral Services Team at electionstaff@molevalley.gov.uk as soon as possible.
