Volunteering day at a SeeAbility home

On Wednesday 24th May staff from the Corporate Governance and Strategy team took up the opportunity under the Volunteering Scheme (you can take up to two days a year) to volunteer at a SeeAbility home in Ashtead.  SeeAbility is a charity that specialises in supporting people who have learning disabilities or autism, who may also have sight loss.  This particular home houses 6 residents who were very friendly and kept us company during the day; it really seemed like a family rather than staff and residents.

We were asked to paint the fence panels surrounding the rear garden – a bigger job than first imagined!  During the day we slowly worked our way round, supported by many kind offerings of tea and cake by the home manager and staff.  By the end of the day we had painted all but one section which the staff said the residents would enjoy finishing off.

We were very lucky with the weather and had a great day; it was lovely to spend a day together and be doing something worthwhile!
