In response to staff feedback we have been working to improve the way news updates are displayed on Molly. Many users were missing updates due to articles being pinned at the top of the stream which looked identical to new articles appearing underneath, with no differentiation between the two.
We have also made other tweaks and introduced a new MVDC events calendar, of which upcoming events are streamed to the homepage.
Key Improvements
- Featured – contains selected pinned news updates and information which needs to be prominent but not interfere with the day-to-day news stream. Articles here also appear in the main news stream
- Latest staff updates – this continues to be the main news and information stream, but without pinned articles getting in the way of the latest updates. There is also a link which skips to the latest news for lower screen resolutions and mobile
- Featured sections panel – linking to selected guidance and advice sections. Similar to before but now arranged vertically to reduce space and also visually separated from the main news stream
- New Brand Identity, Customer Care and Accessibility Section – Very important for everything we do here at MVDC, so please set aside some time to read and digest this section
- New staff events calendar (right sidebar) – containing everything coming up from ‘all in days’, cake sales, bank holiday’s to pre-election information. Please send your event’s to molly@molevalley.gov.uk and we’ll pop them into the calendar
- Sidebar improvements – we’ve simplified it and re-arranged content to reduce clutter
- MVDC values icons – these are prominent just above the search and link to MVDC’s corporate values page
