Staffing for the May 2023 elections

Have you ever thought of getting involved at election time?

The Electoral Services Team are preparing for the Local Elections on Thursday 4 May 2023 and we are looking for new people to help us at polling stations,  and would love to hear from you if you are interested in becoming involved.

The polling station staff (Presiding Officers and Poll Clerks) are responsible for the conduct of the ballot, making sure that the proper procedures for voting are followed. The role of polling station staff is to ensure that voters are able to cast their vote in secret, free from influence and in a calm atmosphere. On the day of the election, polling station staff must be on duty from about 6.15am until after 10pm.

Polling station staff are not permitted to leave the premises during the hours of poll.

You do not need to have any previous experience as full mandatory training will be given. Internal members of staff do not need to take time off to work on Elections, but you do need your manager’s approval. Family members and friends (aged 18 or over) are also welcome to volunteer.

The hours: from 06:15am until 22:30pm (approximately).

The rate of pay: TBC

The rate of pay for election staff varies depending on the job role and the type of poll.  All fees are subject to tax. Mileage allowance will also be paid.

If you are interested in getting involved, please email Joe Blythman in the Electoral Services Team at electionstaff@molevalley.gov.uk as soon as possible but no later than 6th February  2023.
