Many of you will not know the name John Burgess – but the projects he was involved in at Mole Valley will be familiar to most if not all of us.
John was the Principal Estates Surveyor in the Property team at Mole Valley for many years, and was involved in numerous property projects and transactions, including the Swan Centre Leatherhead and in Dorking, St Martins Walk, Medwyn Surgery/social housing scheme, Dorking Sports Centre, and the Dorking Halls refurbishment to name just a few.
He really believed in public service, was seen as very knowledgeable and driven, popular with staff but also acknowledged as a “one off”. Cups of tea and very bad jokes also helped his work day….. Outside work, he had a keen interest in closed railways, and later in retirement, model railways.
He became very ill and that ultimately resulted in him leaving MVDC. We found out recently that he sadly died on 11 December 2021 aged 70.
