Flexi-time changes

Some of you will be aware that the flexi-clock, having given us many years of ‘service’ is retiring. It is currently in its last period of use (Period 240) which will end on Sunday 28th August*.

If you or your manager wish to record your working time after this point, you will need to make separate arrangements such as using a simple spreadsheet.

All services will have different requirements therefore there is no corporate solution.

Managers may be comfortable using broader or alternative measures to manage performance – this could include responsiveness or it may be more outcome related depending on both the service and the individual’s job. However there may be reasons why some services, or individuals, require clearer time recording and adequate coverage of customer contact (e.g. phones) during the hours of 8.30 to 5.00 must always take priority.

Flexi-time, as with so many working practices, has to operate on trust and this is increasingly so when managers are often not working side by side with teams. Each Business Manager has been sent a questionnaire asking about how they intend to manage the situation; you should therefore expect to have a discussion about what the arrangements for you will be with your own line manager.

Whilst the flexi-clock is no longer fit for purpose/supportable, the flexi-time scheme will continue for those who are eligible. Please remember taking flexi leave will always be subject to manager approval and priority will be given to ensuring adequate annual leave can be authorised for all members of the team.

*After this period it will no longer be possible to enter data for the next period but you will still be able to retrospectively enter data for Period 240 or view/export the data already entered for a further two week period until 14th September. This is to allow transition for those on annual leave.
