Mole Valley District Council (MVDC) teamed up with local horseman, Daniel Brown, to remove trees in Milton Heath in a traditional and environmentally friendly way.
Between Monday 27– Thursday 30 September 2021, Mole Valley District Council worked with local Horseman, Daniel Brown, alongside two of his heavy horses to clear felled trees from Milton Heath. Horse logging, as it is known, is a traditional, environmentally friendly approach to woodland management. As the ground flora surrounding the site is very diverse, using the conventional method of heavy forestry equipment would damage and compact the woodland soils, therefore the assistance of horses meant a suitable alternative for the environment. Dead wood has been left safely as habitats for insects and fungi.
