Dorking Halls Open Air Theatre Success

Dorking Halls once again brought its big stage to Meadowbank Park on 16-18 July for open air theatre event Dorking Halls Plays in the Park. Hundreds of theatre-goers of all ages pulled up their picnic chairs to enjoy a brand new line-up of shows, including drama, comedy and children’s theatre.

The weekend kicked off with The Pantaloons and their innovative new adaptation of Jane Austen’s witty and romantic masterpiece Pride and Prejudice. Heartbreak Productions then took to the stage with their sell-out adaptation of David Walliams’ best-selling children’s book Mr Stink. Comedy fans enjoyed some of the hottest new talent on the comedy circuit alfresco at popular comedy club Screaming Blue Murder. On the Sunday Kick in The Head Theatre performed their high-energy production of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and BlackBox Theatre Company put on Noel Coward’s timeless comedy classic, Blithe Spirit.

Refreshments included beer from Dorking Brewery and freshly-made wood fired pizzas from local businesses The Real Pizza Company and The Stonebaked Co.

A massive well done to everyone in the Halls team who worked hard throughout the weekend and kept their cool in the scorching heat!

Dorking Halls has a packed summer and autumn season featuring live music from the likes of The Illegal Eagles on 6 August, Kate Bush tribute Cloudbusting on 26 August and The Upbeat Beatles on 17 September. Children’s theatre includes In The Night Garden on 14-15 September and Stiles and Drewe’s live musical The 3 Little Pigs on 25-28 October. Comedy heavyweights include Jack Dee on 2 September, David Baddiel on 2 October and the now sold out Jason Manford on 21 October and John Bishop on 22 October. They will be closely followed by Ross Noble on 30 October and Omid Djalili on 13 November.
